The Historic City of Alanya, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, was twice submitted for inscription on the UNESCO WHL, but both Nomination files did not receive a positive response from ICOMOS. The Municipality of Alanya asked for an assessment of the world heritage potential of the site and for the definition of a new preliminary strategic option for the submission of a further UNESCO nomination.

In order to comply with the TORs, RC Heritage analyzed the ensemble of Turkish World Heritage properties and of the sites inscribed on the Turkish Tentative List, reviewed the earlier nominations, visited the fortified citadel and discussed with the site management team the characteristics of the property. The Report elaborated for Alanya Municipality proposed to reduce the size of the property focusing on its Seljuk heritage, and suggested the possibility to consider a serial nomination with other Turkish Seljuk heritage sites to strengthen the Outstanding Universal Value of the nomination and increase its chances of success.

La ville fortifiée de Alanya, sur la côte méditerranéenne de la Turquie, a déjà fait l'objet de deux dossiers de candidature pour inscription sur la Liste du Patrimoine Mondial qui n'ont pas été retenus par l'ICOMOS. La Municipalité de la ville a demandé à RC Heritage une évaluation du potentiel patrimonial du site et la définition d'une stratégie différente pour la soumission d'une nouvelle candidature.

RC Heritage a passé en revue l'ensemble des sites Turques inscrits sur la Liste du Patrimoine Mondial et ceux sur la Liste Indicative nationale, a analysé les deux dossiers précédents, visité la citadelle fortifiée et discuté des spécificités du site avec l'équipe en charge de la gestion de la ville fortifiée. Le Rapport rendu à la Mairie de Alanya propose de réduire le périmètre du site en se concentrant sur le patrimoine Seljukide et suggère de considérer la possibilité de proposer une nomination sérielle incluant d'autres sites Seljukides afin de renforcer la Valeur Universelle Exceptionnelle de la candidature et d'augmenter ses chances de succès.
