Le projet d’étude de la maison a été lancé par Mark Gazaleh et May Gazalé-Sikias, descendants de la famille qui a donné le nom à cette riche demeure du XVIIème siècle qui compte parmi les plus importants palais de la ville. La maison est aujourd’hui la propriété de la DGAM qui l’a récemment restaurée dans le but d’en faire un musée de la vieille ville.

RC Heritage a élaboré le programme de recherche et mis en place une équipe composée de spécialistes de l’architecture ottomane et de l’histoire de la ville d’Alep. Le projet a consisté en une collecte de données historiques sur la famille et la ville d’Alep à l’époque ottomane, des relevés architecturaux et une étude historique de la maison et du quartier de Jdeideh. La phase de recherche s’est développée à Alep et Beyrouth.

Le travail sera publié et mis en ligne sur un site dédié à la Maison Ghazaleh. Il a récemment donné lieu a une publication scientifique plus traditionnelle : Alep, La maison Ghazalé, Histoire et devenirs, Ed. Parenthèses.

The study of the House has been carried out on behalf of Mark Gazaleh and May Gazalé-Sikias,  descendants of the family that gave its name to one of the foremost palaces of Aleppo. The house today belongs to the Syrian Antiquities and has been recently renovated to become a museum.

The research project aims at the creation of a website devoted to the architectural evolution of the Ghazaleh House and the history of the family. RC Heritage has defined the research programme and gathered a team of specialists. The assignment implied the collection of historic and genealogical data concerning the Gazaleh family and the city of Aleppo in the Ottoman period, the architectural and photographic survey of the house and its decorative elements, and the historic study of the house and of the Jdeideh neighbourhood. Research took place in Aleppo and Beirut.

The research will be published in both paper and electronic format and a web site devoted to Beit Ghazaleh will also be created. This project evolved into a "traditional" publication: Alep, La maison Ghazalé, Histoire et devenirs, Editions Parenthèses.
