The Garden of Babur (Bagh-e Babur) in Kabul was laid out in the early 16th century by the emperor Babur, founder of the Mughal dynasty whose rule extended from Central Asia to India. It comprises an area of some 11 ha where are found Babur’s grave, the marble mosque of Shahjahan, the Queen’s Palace, and a pavilion dating from the late 19th century. In 2002, the AKTC launched the restoration project, that aimed at recreating the original character of the landscape and conserving key buildings, while ensuring that the garden continues to be a focus for recreation for Kabul residents.

RC Heritage analysed the heritage significance of the site and reviewed the technical aspects of the restoration project of the garden in view of its possible nomination for inscription on the World Heritage List. The report underlines the holistic approach to urban conservation and revitalization followed by AKTC, and proposes a provisional strategy and calendar for the elaboration of the World Heritage nomination dossier.

Le jardin de Babur (Bagh-e Babur) à Kaboul fut créé au début du XVIè siècle par l'Empereur Babur, fondateur de la dynastie Moghol qui domina l'Asie centrale et l'Inde. Le jardin s'étend sur une surface de 11 ha et comprend le tombeau de Babur, la mosquée de Shahjahan, le Palais de la Reine et un pavillon datant de la fin du XIXè. En 2002, l’AKTC lança un ambitieux programme de restauration du jardin historique et de ses monuments, réalisé tout en conservant sa fonction de parc urbain pour les habitants de Kaboul.

RC Heritage a analysé la valeur patrimoniale du site et le projet de restauration en vue d'évaluer la possibilité d'inscription de Bagh-e Babur sur la Liste du Patrimoine mondial. Le rapport souligne l'approche holistique du projet de conservation et définit une stratégie et un calendrier de principe pour l'élaboration du dossier d'inscription.
